KEIRNAN MONAGHAN & THEO VAMVOUNAKIS

Keirnan Monaghan and Theo Vamvounakis have been collaborating for more than a decade. The photographer duo reside in Brooklyn, New York.

Keirnan and Theo both attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and hold degrees in photography. They were immediately influenced by one another’s work. After a few initial attempts at collaborating informally, Keirnan & Theo officially began their collaboration in 2016.

Keirnan and Theo have built a large body of work that uses color, texture, lighting, and object placement to create an experience that feels very personal. In their world nothing is happenstance.

The explicit use of direct lighting lends successfully to the painterly look they often achieve while shooting. They don’t shy away from imperfection and patina as their work celebrates humanity.  They always go out of their way to try to meticulously create a “real” and “found” moment

They collaborate with numerous magazines including Allure, Curated By, Bon Appétit, Cosmopolitan, Departures, Diner Journal, Elle, Elle Decor, Esquire, Fortune, The Gourmand, GQ Style, InStyle, Marie Claire, New York Times, Playboy, Surface, Town & Country, Travel & Leisure, Vanity Fair, Vogue, W, Wallpaper , Wired and WSJ.

Relationship with their subject is essential, and often time includes moments of compositional tensions, humor, and tangibility.

They were published by Rizzoli in the James Beard Foundation food book Waste Not.

They are the recipient of numerous honors & awards including AP 37, 36, 35, 33 and 32 Selected Awards, winners in 2019 of the New York Rights Fair (Waste Not, Book) and Photo Annual, winners of a Readers Award in 2021 at The Agents Club Photography Awards in the « Still Life – Jewelry » category.
